If your home uses natural gas, the most common cause of a gas leak is aging pipes. However, this usually happens when the pipes have been used for many years and have sustained some damage. Therefore, it's crucial to check the pipes regularly. Don't wait until a leak occurs before taking action; by then, it may be too late. If possible, contact the gas company to replace the pipes. Replacement usually costs very little. If you discover a natural gas leak, you should immediately do the following:

Open doors and windows immediately.

If there is too much natural gas in the air, it can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Therefore, if you detect natural gas in the air, you should react quickly. First, dilute the natural gas by immediately opening all nearby doors and windows. However, remember not to open them too quickly or abruptly, as a high concentration of natural gas in the air can easily cause a fire.

Evacuate Immediately

The second thing we need to do is evacuate immediately. After opening doors and windows, we should quickly put on our clothes and immediately go outdoors, trying to reach a relatively open area. If we live in an apartment building, we should also try to notify other family members and ask them to temporarily go with us to an open area. Again, we should be careful not to move around too much.

Notify Relevant Departments

When evacuating to an open area, we should notify the relevant departments. If we don't know the local gas company's phone number, we should first call the police, then dial 114 to inquire about the local gas company's phone number. Then notify the gas company. Before the relevant departments arrive on the scene, we must not return to the house; prioritizing personal safety is paramount.
